Don't Run Your Own Email Server! (Part 4 of 5)

This is part 4 in our 5 part series about why a small to medium sized business doesn't have a need to run their own mail server. In the first 3 parts, we discussed how broadband Internet removed some of the pre-existing needs, the ways that junkmail has affected the attention you need to this server, and how much the hardware and software costs your business. In this instalment, we will be discussing the consultant costs involved.

In installment 3, we'd briefly touched on the costs to have someone administer the server for you. Of course, this would be easy were it not for junkmail, viruses, and spyware that can take a server down by over-running it with junk. Unfortunately, these things do exist, and so having someone who knows what they are doing is an imperative to ensure that email keeps flowing, and that your inboxes stay free of junk.

This will of course cost you more money. Either you pay someone who may or may not be qualified as a mamber of your staff, or you do the same thing with a consultant who will come in periodically and keep things up-to-date. The consultant is likely less expensive, but a downtime issue, or a junkmail problem may have to wait for him to fit it into his schedule.

GreenBayNet has systems people who monitor the mail systems constantly. Your mail will be contained on a server system that has a proven track record of blocking junkmail while still allowing necessary email to remain in place. And if there is ever a problem or question, you are an email or phone call away from an expert who will be able to attend to your needs immediately.

All of this for a dollar per email account per month.
