Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez

Your blog is not this cute!

No, this article is not about Justin and Selena. It's about your company blog (oh, joy!). Specifically, it's about how to craft a TITLE for your blog. Three little things.

Benefits v. Features

In our increasingly soundbite, text message, tweet oriented world, it's becoming more important than ever to put some thought and effort into your title. Just like your blog as a whole, in order to captivate your reader, must have an element of "what's in it for me?" for your readers, so must your blog title. Is it a tip? Is it a news article? Is it a new product?

Action

Do you want your readers to take some action? Are they supposed to learn how to fix a problem? Enter your contest? Follow you on Facebook? Tell them; don't try to trick them or beat around the bush.

Controversy

Just like the Prince song. -"I can't understand human curiosity"-

As a marketer trying to improve your online presence, you need to start to understand curiosity and psychology - at least a little. Put a fun, controversial slant on your topic. "Photoshop Sucks", "Rats Found in the Kitchen", "Horrible Haircuts" - if those were links, there is a good chance you would have clicked! Put a little humor, fun, and controversy into your titles. Try looking at your topic from the perspective of not only your clients but maybe from their families, competitors, or fans.

Try those ideas out, let us know what you'd add to our list of title tips.

Oh, and why the ridiculous title for this article? The title "Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez" was actually trending on INTERNATIONAL news on Google.
