It's a magical number that always comes out to approximately 3.14. However, it can be calculated to nearly infinite precision, so listen carefully, and off in the distance, you just might be able to hear some nerds cheering at 1:59 pm today!
While we use the Greek symbol π, usage of the constant goes back at least as far as the builders of the pyramids in Egypt!
